Hey guys,

Well I have traded-in my 500d for a 5d and I am in love - its bigger, heavier and of course full frame.

Problem I have now is the fact I only have a body and need to buy a lens quick, which brings on this thread.

Looking on eBay I found a Canon EF 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 II USM and also a (more expensive) Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM.

I'm really just after a 'walk-around' lens at the moment for it, but I would like a decent one. Budget is around the 250-300 mark...

So I'm just wondering if anyone has any opinions on either lens or better still, if you own one I'd like to hear your thoughts on it too!

Thanks in advance!!!

Of those 2 lenses I would buy the 28-135 IS - I used to have one and it was an absolute cracker - if you keep your eyes open, you maybe able to pick a new one split from a kit for £200-250

Thanks for the recommendation. I did see that one as an option, as the wide focal range sounds great but this review put me off it a little...

After spending the majority of last night and today looking at reviews and comparisons, I'm thinking of getting the 28-135mm and a 75-300mm lens.

I'll upgrade both as soon as I can (specifically the 75-300!) but at least that would be a vast focal range covered so I don't miss shots...

Would look at the 55-250 IS lens or the 70-300 IS lens rather than the 75-300 lens.

Sadly the 70-300 IS is 250 pound more expensive though and EF-S lenses don't fit FF bodies... :(

I know the 75-300 isn't great - we use them at work - but for as often as it will be used I'm just hoping it will do me for a little while.

Looking at it again, I may actually go for the 70-300 IS. Yes its a bit more expensive but at least I won't be kicking myself for buying it...

Thanks Andy! :)

Your welcome,

and yes the 55-250 is no good :bonk::bonk:

Have a good Christmas, hope you enjoy your new lens

Well, I've done the deed!

Purchased the 28-135mm IS USM and also the 70-300 IS USM. I had to have a stiff drink before going through with it but its done now!

Hopefully these two lenses should do me until for a while. Really want the 24-70L so that will be my next lens, not until Summer or Autumn next year though!

Thanks again Andy and I hope you have a great Christmas too! :)
