Lightroom Original Help

Hi.

Right here goes.. i hope this makes sense.

I import all my images direct from the cf card into Lightroom, so all the originals stored on my computer.... well the space on my computer is starting to go down (well i have 92GB left) but one day it will all go.. so i was thinking of buying an extra external hard-drive and putting all my originals onto that, but if i do that all my images in Lightroom will be corrupt..

once i edit the images in photoshop i then save both a PSD and Jpeg file...

So my question is... what can i do

What would you do??? How would i fix this without corrupting all my images etc...


Now that i have typed all of this i kinda think i know what i will need to do. but let me know your thoughts..

No they won't, Lightroom will just need to "find" them again on the new drive...

Locate missing photos

In the Grid view, Lightroom displays alerts in image cells when photos are moved offline. If photos are moved within a volume, Lightroom usually tries to update the file paths. If you’re deliberately organizing and managing your catalog with the photos offline, ignore the alerts. However, if you need to locate the photos, for example, to apply develop settings and have them written to XMP, do the following:

1. In the Grid view, click the Question icon in a thumbnail cell.

An alert dialog box opens with the original file path.
2. Click Locate to navigate to the photo.

The alternative is to use Lightroom to move the images. When you add your new drive you'll see it come up in drives pane in Library . Simply drag the root image directory(s) on your existing drive to the new one.

Lightroom will ask you about moving images, tell it OK and it'll move them and update the database at the same time.

I understand this now, so this is what i will do.... now need to get a hard-drive..more money spent....
