Tried to tether my 5d mark ii with Lightroom today on my MacBook Pro. Lightroom would not detect camera. It recognised there were pictures on the memory card but just would not tether.
Checked firmware was up to date.
Lightroom is always updating to latest edition via adobe
Don’t have any issues in transferring files direct from camera to MacBook
No issues using memory card with card reader
Rebooted MacBook several times (2018 model)
Tried starting tethering then turn camera on
Tried starting camera then turn tethering on
formatted memory card as I was made aware when starting tethering it looks for pictures but that didn’t work either

not sure what else to try to make it work?

Does Adobe have a walk-through or section on their website for frequently asked questions about tethering?

I use LR tethering quite a bit (though I don't use Canons) so I'd start with the basics:
  1. Has it worked before? Have you ever tethered this camera to this laptop or is this the first time you're trying it?
  2. What have you changed since the last time it worked? O/S, firmware, LR version, cable etc. Have you installed anything else on the machine (even "completely unrelated" stuff)?
If the answers are yes and no then I'd try a new cable. Apart from answer 2 (Adobe or Apple or Canon or you have changed something) it's usually the cable - they wear out. Also, cheap and easy to check.
