Hiya folkies.

We are having a little trip away in November, courtesy of The Sun 9.50 holidays!!

We shall be staying at Haven Lakeland Holiday Park (Grange-over-sands, Cumbria LA11 7LT, UK)

Just wondering if anyone has any good locations for photography round that area ??? Don't want to travel too far as going with friends and family - but just wondered if there was anywhere I could nip for good sunrise / sunset shots. Windermere is about 20miles away .....

Any others appreciated - let's say approx 20mile radius.

Cheers.

If you are staying at that park in Flooky, then sunsets you will have as it is on a penninsula, on the bay ! South Lakes Wild Animal Park is just up the road in Dalton and a great day out, Grizedale Forrest PArk, Muncaster Castle, and from that side of the country if you were to go to Windermere I would go via Hawkshead and the ferry.

Coniston is very nice and again that could be tied into your trip to Windermere via ferry.

Dependent on your style of Photography the list is endless !

Ravenglass has good sunsets and is an interesting village on an equally interesting estuary.

Ian has some good suggestions but here are a few more:

Holker Hall - nice gardens but I'm not sure how good it'll be for photography this time of year?

Cartmel - A nice village (Holker Hall is close to Cartmel), they have nice sticky toffee pudding too :D

You could go to South Lakes Wild Animal Park - edit (didn't realise you'd already put it Ian :bonk:

Aquarium of the Lakes (at Windermere I believe (near Newby Bridge))

Hope the weather is good for you :)

Ravenglass is also good - as Andy has said

You could get the ratty from Ravenglass to Eskdale too :)

Have just came back from the same place - there's a big problem with the park being waterlogged at the moment so I hope that there's some nice weather coming so that they will have chance to clear it all up!!
Talking to one of the site staff the park is 2 foot below sea level and they've had a terrible couple of weeks with the weather and most of the site looks like a mud bath!

Here's a link that I found useful for some places that I wouldn't have otherwise visited:

If the weather is good then it's a beautiful area and you are spoilt for choice, but when it rains it doesn't half rain - and I'm from South Wales and I thought that I was used to a lot of rain!!

A couple of choices on the Waterfall front, either at Ingleton or Aira Force on Ullswater, both a bit out of 20 mile range though. Honestly, I would just drive around until you see one, plenty of water coming off the fells right now !

You could try these, a search will give you more info

Humphrey Head probably in range of walking go early or late for shots across the bay, sunsets sunrises maybe pushing it a bit we see less of that ball of fire than the rest of the country

Hampsfell good walk up to the top for shots over cartmel go early at this time of year for a misty shot if your lucky

Cartmel for the priory (worth looking at even if you don't take any shots) and old architecture if your into that sort of thing

Backbarrow is about 8 miles away tops, less if you go over the tops look for brow edge on an os map, on a good day nice shots from up there, and it drops down into backbarrow. Great river to shoot, plenty of very fast white water, could be worth a look. If you go head for the whitewater hotel the water is very fast their and very white

Sorry, this comes as too late, but I know this area well.

But for next time you go... Cartmel Priory, Holker Hall, Humphrey Head, Morecambe Bay, Fell Foot (southern tip of Windermere)... and of course the Lakes themselves.

Here's one I took of the Priory:

That's quite a distance from the Grange-over-Sands area. Buttermere from there would probably take at least an hour by car.

20 mile Radius ? Yes perhaps it is as the crow flies although I would have thought more, certainly not in a vehicle though, I stand by the post you quoted ;)

Fine as the crow flies but still only an hour in a vehicle. :) maybe a helecopter...

Perhaps if you read the Original Post you would see the bit about the 20 mile radius.

I read the original post and as the fellow has been and gone by this time there seems little to get worked up about. I can make the drive to buttermere from Liverpool in just under 2 hours so to be right on the spot in Grange I would think 1 hour to be simple (I know not 20 miles rad but worth a trip)...
