A friend of mine has a Nikon D50 which she's liking very much as her first DSLR.

The only issue she has is that she's been loosing focus on a few shots. Having examined the meta data of her work it appears that she's been moving her focus point about unintentionally. (Its moved via the multi selector on the rear)

How can she lock the focus point?

Sadly you can't lock them! have to say, I've never had that problem though many others have apparently.

I'd spent a bit of time mooching through her settings and I was starting to think the focus point couldn't be locked but thanks for confirming that for me anyway, Lawrence.

Make sure you havn,t got it set to nearest subject. If you have and you are focusing on an object which is say twenty yards away and there is an object in the frame which is nearer it will change focus points and lock onto the nearerest subject.I used to get really annoyed with mine till I was told what was happening.

Cheers for that, Jack. I'll delve through its menu when I see her next and check what its set to. (I'm saying that as if it'll take seconds to rifle through the menus on a camera I haven't used but I'll give it a go.) :)

If you look in the pencil menu and highlight AF area mode you will have three options,Single, dynamic and closest subject. You will proably find it is set to closest subject. Also if you shoot in auto you might not be able to manually move the focus point.Although I am not certain of that.
Hope I have been of some help.
