I am using a lowepro slingshot 100 now and so far it just holds my stuff.

but i am looking for a bag, slingshot etc that will hold this lot...

canon 50d with the 70/300 lens attached and the batery grip as well.

and room for a speedlingh size flash gun, and another 18-75 ish lens

thanks
ian

do you know if the slingshot 200 is big enough with the batery grip and 300 lens on please

Hi

I`d recommend a Kata 3n1-20. It will fit what you want and a couple more lenses, plus it has room in the top for a small amount of non-photo gear.
It can be used as a slingbag (left or right shoulder) and as a backpack.
I`ve owned one for about 6 months and its been a really good bag.

Hi Paul

This is my bag on the site...

I can fit my Nikon D90 + 180mm f/2.8 in the main compartment and these are pretty much identical in size to your 50D and 70-300mm.
Have added some photos to the review to show this and with the sb-800 flash.

I did look at the 3n1-30, but felt it was a bit big for me personally. I just wanted a lightweight day bag and 3n1-20 suited that.

Hope that helps

do you know where the cheapest place ti buy one from please, the length with the 300m on is around 8.7/8.8 inches. so thing it might just squeez onto the 3n1- 20, it will fit in the 3n1-30 fine.

thanks

I have also seen some Think Tank bags on the net, that look very nice, what one would fit my needs?

thanks again

Do either of you have pictures of these on your back (or someone else's back)? I always have a hard time judging how far they'll protrude from one's back when fully laden.

Also, are the hip straps removable?

I`ve updated my review with some body photos showing different configuations.

The hip straps arnt removable but can be hidden away in the sleeve that runs the full length of the back of the bag.

Hope that helps

Verrry helpful, thanks ever so much Paul.

The bag certainly looks smaller than my Fastpack 200. Dimensions are one thing but smaller physical bags can look much bigger on people than slightly larger bags and the Kata seems to be something of a tardis!

How awkward do you find accessing the top two slots in the camera part of the bag? I've heard the material covers over them quite significantly. Also, is the bag deep enough to stack two primes in one section - say a 35mm and 50mm?

Billingham Camera Bag ?

Bought mine 18 years ago and still as good as new.

I think someone else today mentioned setting up a specialist bag section

Your welcome!
I've never tried a fastpack 200 but they look like they hold a similar amount but perhaps the kata is a bit more configurable.
Since writing my review I realised the "hidden" top two slots are accesible when the side flap is opened ie when you have the bag at you side to get the camera out. There is a velcro
access flap to the front of that compartment which allows you to easily remove what's in there.
You can also happily put a 35mm and a 50mm on top of each other in on of the compartments.
