Recently i bought a Sony HDR-CX505VE Camcorder. Surfing around the net i learned about 35mm adapters, which allow to put photo lenses on your camcorder to get a more cinematic/photographic look. So i got a Handy35 and a Nikkor 50mm 1.4(i believe AI) from ebay.

Results of this setup can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/user2791207/videos

But being so excited about this lens i would like to put it on a DSLR. But i want to limit my budget to 200euro. From what i read glass is more important than body anyway.

I think a Nikon D70 might fit the bill. I read some good reviews. But since most reviews originate from the time the D70 was released, what's today's opinion on a Nikon D70 to get started in DSLR land. Or would you recommend another DSLR ? I also read a D70 won't be able to do any metering with this lens, but what does that have as a consequence ?

My bro has a D70, really good camera, as far as I know it will meter, it's just bodies like D40's etc that won't AF with non AFS lenses.

Very interesting video there mate, I'm not to clued up on camcorders but are there many models which will allow a 35mm adaptor or other adaptors to add Nikon glass?

Welcome aboard the TP train by the way

As soon as you have a camcorder with filter threads it should work. It will be a bit harder to find a 35mm adapter which fits on filter threads smaller than 37mm though. But i'm sure there are solutions for that too.

Sorry, but I know nowt about Nikons although I've heard good things about most of them, but I have to say I liked your video's, especially the sunset at the end, quality. Looked like your model was getting a bit grumpy at times though, that tell-tale tail twitch!
I'm off to google your camcorder now, like Tomas I had no idea you could put good glass in front of them!
Welcome aboard etc!

My model is always grumpy. He's a very strange cat :)

35mm adapters are cool, but if i knew what i know now i might have gotten a Canon 5d, 7d or waited for a Nikon with good video capabilities. :bang:
