Looking for advice on first DSLR

Hi guys.

First time poster and it finds you all well!

Before i begin, i should say that i know little to nothing about cameras.

As i said, im looking for some advice on my first dslr. Im a pilot and do a lot of light aircraft flying in Scotland and im looking for a camera that will produce pictures such as this:

I love the colours and the detail of this image. But its taken with a D800. I have a bit of experience with my dads canon 50d mk II and i have a canon compact. What im saying is that i support the Canon team and not the Nikon.

What kind of canon can produce pictures such as this around the £1000 mark? I've been looking at the 60d but like i said, i dont even know where to begin.

It's not so much as the camera as it is the glass on the camera. But i need to get this out of the way, "it's not the camera that makes the great picture it's the person behind it".

If you look the aperture setting on this shoot was F2.8 meaning that it was a fast lens. Also the focus length is 15mm meaning it was a wide lens. Fast and wide are generally exceptional but expensive lenses. Most entry level dslr's are capable of getting shots like this but I do not know of an entry level lens kit that can do this.

Personally I do not care for this shot to much but I'm trying to figure out if you are impressed by the image quality or the composition of the shot. That will tell us a lot about what you are looking for in a system. My gut tells me that you need to be looking at lenses as much as cameras.
 
Tend to agree with Shayne in that I don't really like that shot and can't really see how it demonstrates good detail. It looks like they have increased the saturation which explains the colours you like.
The detail and colour could be achieved by any DSLR with a bit of post processing but the wide angle needs a specific lens
 
Looking at the shutter speed (1/8000) he did not need to shoot that photo at F2.8 so did not need such a fast lens.

You could produce photos like this with, say, A Canon 50d and a Canon 10-22mm EFS lens for under £1000 especially if you bought secondhand (see MPB for instance)

As the other posters have said, you will need to apply post processing to achieve the look though (I also don't really like the shot)

Of course there are cheaper and more expensive equipment you can purchase that will help you produce photos like this.
 
That image was taken with a D300 rather than a D800. The D300 sensor is pretty ordinary these days so more or less any modern DSLR would be a match for it. I do agree though that the linked image has a lot of saturation boost. Not really my taste but easily replicated.

I think you can basically take your pick in terms of body.
