Looks like Canon may have a dust / oil issue

It's neither - other reports confirm it is in the glass on top of the sensor.
A production quality control problem.
Also confirmed - you have to try hard to find it affecting 'real' images.

As long as Canon get their act together this will be a non-issue.

I had both of those camera and had to work pretty hard to create images that had the problem.
Only saw them in 'real' images on rare occasions like this one.
Does anyone remember those problems now?
Probably not.
With hindsight both are highly regarded camera models.

As I say - if Canon get their act together and will sort the affected cameras out, this will also disappear into the archives.
 
At least Canon seem to be reacting and not denying there is an issue. Hopefully, it will only affect, a very limited amount of cameras.
