Hi All,
Some time back I asked about large bags as my fastpack 250 wasn't quite cutting it with my new underwater rig. Through the magic of the classifieds, a large bag appeared at a reasonable price so I thought I would jump on it. As I'm in the process of packing it all up, I thought I would share with TP as a reference to either underwater travelers or those who are looking for a big backpack.
Loaded in the pack is an Olympus underwater housing for an EM-5 (camera in the housing with the 60 mm macro lens and flash in place) with a Zen -WA100 dome, 9-18 lens, 2x UFL-2 strobes, a ULCS tray and double handle system (you can see the black balls in the top of the picture), 5" and 8" arms for each strobe, clamps to hold it all together, a large video light (6" x 2" diameter) and olympus cold shoe arm to hold it, and all of the ancillary equipment to support this setup (16 AA batteries, 3x olympus batteries, chargers and plugs for both, retaining strap, etc). It all fits nice and snug and the pack has a lot of adjustability in this regard. Since I have a lot of smaller bits, I prefer to leave a few more of the dividers in place to keep them from bouncing around. There is enough space around what's left throw in the ipad charger/cables, plug adapters, and other minor goods for the trip.
I haven't worn it yet, but for the couple bits of carrying this pack around the house it seems very comfortable and well padded. The straps are very adjustable so I am sure I will tailor the fit some. There is enough space in the front pocket for a pack of cards, gum, ipad, pen, passport, and minor travel essentials. I am still slightly concerned about the size going into an overhead bin (it probably wouldn't on the smaller regional jets) but that won't be a concern for this trip as we're in big planes the whole way.
