M42 adaptors for Nikon

Hi folks

I'm in the mood to try out some of my dad's older M42 lenses [ahh, the Praktica I learnt on...] and I'm after an M42 mount for Nikon F. This'll open up a whole bag of older lenses for me to play [using MF and an old lightmeter].

The problem is finding one with a decent quality converting optic to keep the appropriate registration distance. There are plenty on fleabay, but most are simple aluminium mounts with no optic. Without the optic, it's close focus only - like an extension tube, extending the reg distance loses infinity focus...

Has anyone in the UK tried similar - and obtained an M42 adaptor with a decent converter lens group?

thanks - I'll give it a go. Yeah, I don't expect miracles - but it seems such a shame to have a freebie bag of lenses across all focal lengths and not have any use for them!

On a different tack - has anybody ever bought an old M42 lens, some macro tubes, and an M42 adaptor purely for macro use?

Of course, I regret selling my 60mm micro...

I use M42 lenses quite a bit on my Pentax K10D, I have a M42 mount Vivitar 90mm f2.8 1:1 macro lens selling on Ebay right now.

I made an M42 macro adaptor. I used a Nikon CPU mount from a scrap 20mm f2.8 and an M42 mount from a Prakica MTL3.
Works a treat and you can use it in Aperture Priority mode.
