Hi guys,

I have my own domain that I host with powweb and have had the same e-mail address for years. Powweb allow me to forward my e-mails to another address. I have paid for a mobileme account and would like to sync the e-mail on my two macs and my ipod touch but still using my usual e-mail address.

Any ideas on the best way to do this.

Cheers,

Pete

Not sure if this is the best way but this is how I do it. I forward my e-mails to my mobileme account, this then syncs my IMac, MacBook and in my case BlackBerry.

If you have recently purchased your Macs your entitiled to free tech support, even if not you can ask at the apple Genuise bar for advice & it is more often forthcoming.

BTW have you checked the free MobileMe Tutorials on the Aplle site?

your email setup with powwow - is it just a forwarding service or is an actual mailbox service? If it's a mailbox service and allows IMAP then just configure each client (both macs and iPod touch) with the mail settings.

As it's IMAP all mails are store on the server so each client will be in sync. This is how I do it for a number of email accounts, including MobileMe across 2 macs and iPhone and 2 PCs.

:plusone:

An alternative is to use Google apps for your personal domain, I use this for my work email and it syncs perfectly between iPhone and Mac alongside my Mobile Me account. So I get personal and work emails working flawlessly across the board in terms of phone/laptop/web.

Another vote for Google Apps here, it works just like an IMAP server.

Yes you just need to switch to using an IMAP server rather than a POP server!

Go to your host's web site and look for the FAQs etc and look for the email servers. You will often see something like...

pop.mysite.co.uk (incoming)
smtp.mysite.co.uk (outgoing)

then you will usually see another like

IMAP.mysite.co.uk (imap)

What you need to do is simply substitute the POP servers name for the IMAP servers name in the email setup for each device. Then all the devices will be permanently in sync without any more work.

What IMAP does is it holds all you email together with whether they are read etc on the server. This obviously takes more space on the hosts server so they tend to give out POP as the default and leave IMAP for those that are in the know!

When use your email program on your phone you will see all the email on the server. As you read an email it marks it as read, as you delete an email it deletes it off the server. Then you put down you phone and pick up your laptop. You start your email program and it will see exactly what you left on the phone ie the deleted email will not be there and the read email will be marked as read.

SEEMPUULLS......
