I've done a quick search on here but couldn't find any related threads - my Macbook Pro Model A1226 has developed a problem with reading disks. It seems to be happy with some disks and not others. It can't even read the Snow Leopard upgrade DVD which it was quite happy to do a couple of months ago. Is it a known problem with this issue? Also is their a recommended upgrade that I can install myself. I recently upgraded the hard drive successfully, so Iv'e been inside the box before!
Any help would be very much appreciated.

If you don't get any help here the support forums on the Apple website are usually pretty busy, so it may be worth a search/post there.

It might be your DVD drive itself that is the problem.
If you have been in the box before then it will be an easy replacement job.
May want to try an external drive first to see if it is the drive itself.

Have you tried using a cleaning disc? I've got one from Tescos that worked when I had similar problems.

Thanks for the response guys - Yes Steve I have tried that, forgot to mention.

The dvd player can be a bit temperamental.

The cleaning disk is it for DVD's or CD ?,

Not sure what the difference is but seen 2 types on sale. (I bought dvd version)

I did have problem with my old MBP but putting the cleaning disk through a couple of times cured problem.
