Ok, so I've moved to the darkside. I've bought a macbook which arrives tomorrow hopefully. Also 4gb of RAM is on the way from crucial.

Ive got Lightroom which I use atm on my main PC which is nice as I have a 22" lcd - and I have got the mac version of Lightroom as I like its simplicity.

With the mac, is there any other software I should be buying straight off for photo-editing? Everyone has told me that if I'm doing any video editing or photo work (I do both now) that a mac is the way to go, but I'm unsure of what software to go for?

EDIT : My mate has lent me Adobe Premier for mac, so thats that sorted, I like that a lot on the PC.

For a start I think the dark side is actually windows :)

Anyway.... There is as much software available for the mac as there is for windows other than the 1000 different anti virus packages :) so it sort of depends on what you want to do.

The main packages are available on both such as Adobe CS4, lightroom and Elements. The software that comes with the mac is MUCH better than that which comes with windows but it is all consumer orientation. iPhoto for example does a similar job to say lightroom or aperture but without the edits etc etc. I personally do not use ANY of the free "i" stuff but my family does.

I much prefer CS on the Mac and most packages are now available for FREE trial. You cannot say which is best as they pretty much do the same and we have had dozens of thread arguing one over the other.

MY personal preferences are: CS3, lightroom and Microsoft office! (I like the compatibility thing and need Excel although the lack of a programming language in the Mac version is a right pain!)

Dont forget to have a look at the three links in my sig - Upgradeyourmac (needs updating), TOP TIPS which you will find helpful and lastly the Script Writer thread which is TP's own add-on for Photoshop.
