Macro Extension Tubes

Hi,
I want to give macro a go, I'm thinking of getting some extension tubes. Is it worth buying the ones that support autofocus, having tried close up with my Tamron 28-300 Macro lens the dof is so shallow I would have thought that manual focus would be a must after some tubes are added ?

AF isnt important , with high mag manual focussing and rocking backwards and forward will be better anyway.. however its not a bad idea to get the ones with electrical contacts that support TTL metering , the cheap ones are litterally just plastic tubes so you'd have to guess the exposure etc and set your settings in full manual

Thanks Pete, Wife just altered the plans, Apparently I need to do some photos of the kids, nieces and nephews for xmas presents so this months buy will be another external flash and a few other bits (a result really )
