I am thinking of getting a Tamron 90mm DI Macro Lens for my canon 40D alot of people told me this is the lens to go for and it VERY VERY GOOD for the price... And was told it better than the Canon 100mm Macro.

Can any one here comment on this?

If you are going macro on a canon, it can only be the MPE65 ;) have a look in the marco photo section...wish nikon had a competing lens.

That macro lens is a bit out of my range and I believe it hard to work with

there's a test done on most of the macro lens in the 90-105 range in digital camera magazine, and the tamron came out best.

Optically tammy is great. With canon you will get very fast and silent USM motor and non extending lens. Every little helps.

If you want a macro around 100mm and f/2.8, there is none better than the Canon. There are plenty others almost as good maybe as good. And cheaper. But none better.

Rookies,

My daughter Bridie has a Tamron 90mm - it is sharp and gives very nice contrasty images. The AF/MF mechanism is simple to use and I think it was great value for money for a non dedicated macro shooter.

The only downside, if you can call it that is the slower AF than maybe the canon - I don't know for sure as I have never shot with the canon. The AF is fast enough for birds in flight (well seagull at the seaside), but in macro that doesn't matter so much.

Hope this is of some help

Rob
