Macro lighting gear for my Oly setup

Hey guys

I need some advice on macro flash setups on Olympus. As you know the 4/3rds system is teeny and I use the 35mm macro from Oly which is tichy too. This rules out the onboard flash for lighting as I'm that close to the subject it ends up in shadow.

Ringflash setups are out of the question due to the extortionate price. I have seen ring LED setups on Maplin that fit on the end of the lens and are powered through a batterypack that sits on the hotshoe - has anyone seen these or used them?

My only other option (which I struggle to find anywhere) is a cheap manual flash for Olympus, and an L bracket connecting to the tripod mount and have the flash connected to the hotshoe on a cable - does this sound right? and what is the best kit to use for it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I need macro lighting and the bugs are all back in town :)

Cheers guys

Effjay

Disclaimer: I have no experience of macro work at all so I may be saying something completely idiotic.

Your 620 will be able to remotely control the Oly FL36R (FL50R is probably overkill for macro). So the flash can be mounted anywhere you want and remotely fired by the camera. The control method is via the pop up flash though so that may cause issues with macro work. There is an eternal argument about whether the pop up flash affects the exposure or not. Being so physically close to your subject may increase the likelihood of problems but as your subject is currently in shadow I would guess not.
