MACRO TRIPOD

firstly, merry xmas all. I need a good tripod to get low and a centre column that can be used horizontally. I currently use an old giottos which can perform the task, but not very user friendly and is a little rough to handle and creeps. I recently played around with giottos vitruvian which was very very light but could not see how the centre column could go horizontal. my budget is around £300. recommendations please, mike

Not sure the Vitruvian column can be mounted horizontally but it can be mounted upside down to get a low viewpoint. WEX were running a promotion recently where they were selling a CF Manfrotto tripod with an easily horizontalisable centre column c/w head and free bag for under £300 - IIRC, it was mentioned in a thread in the bargain section.
