Hi all,

this is just a quick thing, I was infected with a rather nasty virus 2 days ago. Virus checkers & Spybot could not get rid of it as it was self replicating.

I downloaded Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Took 3 hours for a complete scan, removed 16 infected files and PC now works perfectly again

If you have any issues I would give this a go first

really shouldn't have got past updated AV ........:shrug:

nevertheless - yes malwarebytes is well recommended

keep an eye on its website - I bought a one-off lifetime subscription license a year ago for just $19 - free updates too

odd, ive never come across anything that avast/ms security essentials and spybot couldnt shift..

out of intest what AV was it and what was the infection/malware?

No idea what it's called, got it from opening an install package for a game.

Basically, it's a trojan, and a silly one because it does this when you are infected:

Not very stealthy

I was using Avira, never had any issues with it until now, and Spybot usually picks up the odd thing that Avira doesn't.

I think it was the Win32/Kollah trojans.

I swear by malwarebytes at the moment. It's really good to run with your antivirus active as well, as it detects lots of malware/trojans and if it touches an infected file the av software usually grabs it.
