I realised that not having a "ball head" is a pain and can really appreciate the benefits of one.

Question I have a Velbon DF 50 Tripod with a Traditional head head on it.

Can I fit A Monfrotto 322rcc grip head on to it?

Does it screw on like a camera?

Doe the existing head come off to be replaced by the ball head, if so I can't see how?
 
No, the velbon is a fixed head tripod. More expensive tripods are bought as separate legs and heads to allow more flexibility in what they can be used for (it's a different, larger screw fitting than the tripod mount on the camera).
 
Thanks for the reply, regretably that was the answer I suspected.

What would anyone recomend replacing the Velbon with?.....without breaking the bank!!

The 7D is looking further away.
