Manual focus macro bargain?

Can anyone advise me of such a thing?

There must be old lenses out there that are manual focus only and do a good job of macro? Does not matter how old they are.

Can anyone suggest lenses I should look at? Nikon fit please.
 
Micro Nikkor AI or AIs 55mm, 85mm, 105mm (Lovely), 200mm (even more lovely).
 
Dean, as well as Nikon fit, you could also look at M42 fit, which, although they require an adaptor, you do not lose any image quality, because they do not require an extra element to preserve infinity focus. If you went down this route, then you could also make use of some very cheap extension tubes and bellows units, also in M42 fit.
With regard to lenses, I believe that Tamron, Vivitar and Takumar (Pentax M42 fit), all made decent macro lenses.

bit of an advert - i'm selling a well respected Tamron Sp90/2.5 in the classifieds, it's easy to get a nikon adapter and is a cracking lens....
 
Check the magnification of any macro lens you consider. I believe that most (all?) of the pre-AF Micro-Nikkors could not do 1:1 magnification without bellows or extension tubes.
 
Think I'm going to opt for the 55mm f3.5. i have seen one for sale but it states there is a little internal dust. Will this cause an issue and show up in photo's?
 
Depends on how little dust but generally a little dust shouldn't effect photos. Just realize that if you're planning to shoot insects, 55mm is going to be to short with razor thin DOF, you'll have to right on top of them. 90mm and up is recommended for insects.
 
I was not really looking to shoot insects. I was going to use it for water drop collisions and up the apature for increased DOF.
