Maybe a 5D/II..?

Ok, been using/shooting with a totally mint/boxed 5D/MkI I bought around 6/7 months ago, over the months I've been buying a dedicated Canon battery grip/cable release/spare battery etc...

I've had the chance over past 4/5 months of buying some decent Canon glass; 50mm f/1.8 II, 85mm f/1.8, 70-200mm L f2.8 (non IS).

So my personal dilemma(?), I've always fancied/wanted a 5D MkII but couldn't really afford it. I love the 5D MkII mainly because it's virtually double the pixels compared to my 5D Mk1, should I get better photo's with the 5D MkII because of this? I'm NOT keen on shooting video and would probably never use it. It's the versatility it provides; better/wider iso settings and more pixels excite me, and it's full-frame like my 5D.

Do I keep my 5D MkI and buy a decent wide angle 'L' lens, or sell it and up-grade to the MkII version..?

I take general photo's and am interested in landscape photography for info. I'm in no rush to change if that's what I decide, but around £1500-£1595 for a new 5D MkII is tempting me. My heads in a whirl beating myself up with this query most days..............help.


Any advice/experience/thoughts would be great, thanks.

If you are so interested in landscape photography I would suggest you invest in a wide lens... depending on your budget the 17-40 F4L or 16-35 2.8L II.

5D Classic actually has a high effective resolution for it's MP count, due to a weak AA filter over the sensor, it's for this reason a 5Dii won't offer noticeably better detail as it's softer in terms of 100% Crop Vs 100% crop, also lenses unless stopped down a stop or two become a bottleneck in terms of sharpness.
What you will get with a 5Dii is better ISO, LCD and Micro-Adjust, as well as video if that matters to you.
