MB-D11 D7000 Grip - Need some info

Has anyone got the MB-D11 grip and answer these questions for me?

1. I know the grip only holds one battery but reading up on the MB-D11 it isn't very clear whether or not you can use two batteries, one in the grip and one in the body.

2. If you can use two batteries can you choose which is used first

3. Does the second battery automatically kick in after the other has been drained. Specifications state 'It enables seamless switching between power sources' so is that a yes?

4. The MB-D11 battery pack extends autonomous operating time :bonk: What exactly does that mean?

Just got my Legit Genuine real Not knock off MB-d11 this morning.( After Amazon letting me down I took a chance with Ebay)

It runs both batts I believe at the same time


Figures for example only

For instance turning 2 10 Mah batts into 1 20 Mah batt

Although After saying that and taking some shots it looks like it automatically uses the one in the grip first. I presume its to save you having to take the grip off all the time If the one thats easier to get to gets used first.

I would read the manual but I'm a bloke


Going through the D7k menu settings under battery. The grip batt is highlighted and after taking some shots only the grip batt indicator and shots taken indicator change so it does in fact look like the grip is used first. (easier to remove batt from grip than batt in body) With the body batt as a backup.

To answer your Q's

1, Yes you can use 2 batteries - one in the grip and on in the body.

2. You set which one to use first in the camera menu. Mine's set to use the grip 1st, so the one in the body effectively becomes a backup battery.

3. Yes it swaps automatically over when the primary battery is drained.

4. I assume it's 'promo-speak' for saying it can go longer between charges

2: I'm pretty sure I remember reading that you can, however this doesn't apply to the way I use the grip so I can't be 100% positive on this

3: Yes.

4: This simply means you get the continuous running time of 2 batteries instead of one.

Personally I just run with one battery in the grip and don't bother with an in camera one. The chances are that you'll need change the memory card before the battery - 300 or so shots in an afternoon saw the battery go from 90% to 70%. The new batteries combined with the power management of the D7000 is pretty much first class.

As Slaphead says 'chances are that you'll need change the memory card before the battery' but its great knowing I have enough juice to last me, probably a whole weekend of shooting :D
 
The Seller sent me an email saying it must have been a mistake they would never knowingly sell fake goods. Surely the knew who they bought it off. They offered me a replacement but I had already bought one off ebay. Amazon has refunded in full including postage. So good on Amazon. And I believe the seller has had a rollocking.

There is a noticeable difference in the real one without even looking at it. Just by feel and weight. It was delivered this morning and when I took it out of the box it was cold to the touch whereas the plastic one from Amazon wouldnt have been.

Ebay's buyer protection is great ( for Buyers NOT for sellers). If this had been fake I would have kicked up a right storm.

Im also after a grip for my D7000, which seller on ebay did you buy it off? was it a good price?
