Medium format. what to buy?

The weight of an RB is an issue for me and not merely an internet myth.

An RB with 130mm lens and 120 back weighs 2690g

A Bronica SQB with 120 back and 110mm lens weighs 1610g

to put it in perspective though - my out and about kit for 35mm...

EOS-3 body + battery 830g
17-40 F4 L 475g
24-105 F4 L 670g
70-200 F4 L 760g

total of 2735g, and I can't honestly say It's particularly overwhelming

My back pack of 35mm gear that I took to Ibiza came to 16lbs...and travelling to the station, aircraft etc didn't notice this weight....soldiers can carry 120lbs on their back yomping,

The largest sized sensor currently available to fit V series Hasselblads (500 & 2000 series) is the CFV 39Mp and CFV 50Mp. The sensor size is 36.7mm x 49.0mm which is slightly larger than twice the size of a 35mm frame and just slightly smaller that a 6.45cm frame. The crop factor though is 1.1x that is 1:1.1 so a 40mm lens is AOV equiv 44mm, 50mm = 55mm, 80mm = 88mm 150mm = 165mm and so on.

Not too much of a change for a massive increase in quality.

Downside is the cost: CFV-39 is about £10,000 where available and the CFV-50 is £12,000.

645 purchased off Ebay with loads of assorted goodies for £400.
she's jumping up and down with excitement.
her first medium format.
even been digging out her developing gear.

Let me know if you need a film canister capable of MF :)

So instead of getting an ETRS I ended up buying a Bronica SQ-A earlier on.
Body, strap, WLF, 80mm, 150mm f/3.5, 2x120 backs, pro lens hood, hoyarex filter holders and 11 filters in a metal carry case for £400 including shipping. I'm happy.

You'll be even happier when you start peering down on to the ground glass. The SQ is a really lovely camera to work with and any version of those lenses should be superb. (y)

Sounds a fair price. Make sure it has the rotating back adapter fitted or it's something else you'll have to source, although there are usually plenty about. I might be able to help you out with a very tidy 120 back which has recently had the seals replaced. Let me know when you're ready if you're interested.

It has the adapter and I've placed the order.. I'd be very interested in the back - I have a wanted thread running to keep things proper.

Try the local ads (papers, loot etc) ebay isn't the only second hand dealer.
I found a radio I wanted on preloved (Uk site) although I missed it
