Yes
Now this may sound like another of my daft questions but is there any reason I can't get my local glass merchant to make me up a ground glass focusiing screen for my RZ67 and Toyo 4x5 cameras?

Not sure about the mamiya but I have made a few for my 5x4..

Its really easy and works quite well but not as good as some of the proper ones.

Brilliant, thanks Liam.

I've managed to break the screens in both my RZ67 and the Toyo. I've tried buying a Graflok replacement for the Toyo but it's not quite the right size and screens for the RZ are silly money on ebay.

So I'll give this a go, just need to find a supplier for the grit.

If you can't find a way of getting them made, check out camera fairs especially for the RZ. I picked up an as-new split focusing screen for my ETRS from a camera fair for £3 and they sell on the bay for at least 10 times that (as you put it, silly money).

No worries, I went to a local glass specialist and they cut me some 2mm glass for free :D

What do you need for the RZ? I have a RB screen where the alignment "ants" have gone for a wander. Like this when I bought it, I suspect they are waterslide transfers and someone has been a bit OTT with cleaning the viewfinder and got it wet.

I haven't a clue what the viewfinder differences are between the RB and the RZ, but if you've a RZ viewfinder with a cracked screen you might be able to extract the glass from my spare RB screen and drop it into the frame. I've since bought a grid screen, so I've no use for the "wandering ants" screen.

Hi Alastair, I'm not sure if the screens are the same size, I know you can't just drop the whole screen and frame from the RB into the RZ but the glass may be the same size. Without wishing to upset the Mods (y) how much did you want for it?

If you measure the hole, I'll measure the window..

And then if it fits, it's just a donation to the RNLI or MSF and it'll be in the post..

That's very generous of you Alastair, thanks.

OK, according to my measuring stick it's 70 x 75mm. Fingers crossed that it's the same as the RB. More than happy to make a donation :D

I'll measure up in the mornng..

Just as soon as I find the box it's in.. I know what it looks like, just not where I put it.. ..

I know that feeling only too well

Found it..

Taking the "glass" out of the frame, which in itself has answered a few questions, the dimensions are:

68mm x 78mm

It's composed of two layers, a lower frosted acrylic screen and an upper glass screen. The "wandering ants" are indeed water transfers on the underside of the glass screen, sandwiched between it and the frosted plastic screen.

Mmm, typical I don't think that it's going to fit unfortunately. Thanks for the offer though (y)
