I recieved my Minolta 28mm Prime today and as a whole it's pretty good. However, when photographing things which are black, this purple sort of artifacting appears. The lens itself looks flawless through and through so I have no idea what is causing this? Any ideas on what the cause may be and if this is normal or not?

Is this normal in these prime lenses? It's really bugging me now! If it's a fault I'll have to contact the seller ASAP as I am going to spain on friday :( And yeah, it does look a bit like a reflection. But what of? Could be my window I suppose.

Does anyone have a technical term of diagnosis of this problem? Or is it just normal? The lens is quite convex so I guess there is a chance it could pick up reflections or something?

Try the same photo but with the light source not directly in front of the camera or more than 90 degrees to the side. It looks like a form of glare to me.

I would agree with that. The fact that the blacks are not true black also suggests that there is some light flare reducing the contrast.

Steve.
