It was dropped by a guide whilst on holiday and it rattles. I can't focus when at full zoom.

Any ideas. WEX cant. And a google search doesn't look good.
 
iirc you have the "kit" 75-300?
If so it's probably cheaper to just buy a replacement than get it inspected & fixed.

I'll be claiming on the holiday insurance. £50 excess so whats the best replacement?
 
How much do you want to spend?

a s/h Min 70-300 can be found for ~£75 usually so as you have an excess of £50 & the claim may have an impact on your renewal fee I don't know that I would bother claiming but it's up to you of course.

Tamron 70-300 Di LD is currently £100 @ Jessops. http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/74938/show.html

next step above that is probably the Tamron 70-300 SP USD ~£350 (the Sigma 70-300 APO is £200 but not as good & has a reputation for breaking it's AF gears on Alphas albeit you would have a 3 year warranty).

WEX CAN repair them. The chap (very helpful indeed) said it would be about £70 :O!!

Surely that's not cost-effective. Isn't it about what you'd pay for a used one?

By the way, I know money's tight, but there's an absolute bargain 70-300G on the classifieds at the moment. Not mine, or anyone I know, I should add.
 
I didn't pay a penny for it.
I asked WEX if they would give me a letetr saying it was non repairable, and that I needed a new one but they wouldn't. So repair it is.

Lol! Today's been a day for misunderstandings. I know you didn't pay for it. I was the one who gave it to you!! :)

What I meant was, rather than pay £70 to get it fixed, why not spend that on another one from fleabay? There are a couple on there at the moment with current bids around the £50 mark.

Cause I get a 6month warrenty when repaired! which is 6 more than ebay :)!
