A quick google reveals I'm not alone. Was merrily shooting some portraits, had trouble focussing then the viewfinder went black. Took the lens off and the mirror has come off the mechanism.

So, it's a bank holiday monday, got weddings on the 4th and 5th Sept...time to try out Canon Professional Services I guess.

Damn.

Yep it's a known fault with them, sorry to hear it had happened to you at such an awkward time.

You might like to investigate rentals just in case... (let's hope it does not come to that!)

has happened to me too, did you buy it recently? i bought mine from jacobs 2nd hand who loaned me a free 1dmk2 whilst they arranged for the repair. Its a free repair in the UK but dont take it to Colchester Camera whatever you do!

so much for the great 5d :D and the look of outmost disdain I get from the owners of these awesomest cameras each time one of them catches me running around with my tiny 500

:naughty:

but sorry for your pain.... it really sucks :(

I'd lend you mine but its a bit far, if you're proper stuck I could post it to you?

ah there's still some decent people left on this world lol.

Hope you manage to get it fixed sharpish in time for the weddings. I'm hoping you have a backup body too though. ;)

If I had a 5D, I would drop it off at your house. If my 40D would help, maybe in conjunction with another loan/hire camera, then just ask.

A mirror spring flew off my 400d and got lodged in the shutter, after about 6 months owning it, quick phone call to canon, they sent a courier round to pick it up, and return it, it was back with me within 5 days, with a new mirror mechanism, cleaned, great service

Wow, I'm genuinely amazed at the generosity of some people, thank you :) I'm gonna call CPS on Tuesday and see what they say, if they can't guarantee it being returned by Friday I'll probably hire one. Very kind for the offers of help guys, much appreciated. I think I'll be ok though.

I have two 5Ds and a 30D so not completely up the creek but would rather have two FF cameras.

Sorry...no...wait...really...

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Trust you! But I do have to admit to literally LOL when I saw your reply!
But what would you expect from a diehard Nikon fan?

Having said that... to the OP, yes it is a known fault and they should fix it free of charge. But that's hardly the point when you need it right now.

b****r... I'm sounding like a Nikon fanboy now!

and a really nice Pentax...

...back in yer box Student Grant...lol

hehehehe and sliiiiiiddddeeeessss

I meant I as a canon user, I personally say **** off to anything that slow (unless its MF) cos with the outstanding focus in a canon 'pro' body that straight up doesn't work with an f4 lens in non perfect light

I spend waaayyy too much on film

Ok the whoop-ass is on hold til 10am tomorrow.

Let's just say the service I've received from CPS so far is poor, however there is still a chance they will partially redeem themselves.
