Monitor: Any good for editing?

I tend to only favour the IPS panels. They are always improving technology so could be this TN panel is fine but if it's for your work I'd go IPS.

Does it have to be 27inch? Or would you drop to 24''?

The Dell u2410 or 2710 are worth a look- the 27 is higher than your may want to go. Also the HP 2475 if 24'' was large enough

Also depends on the colour space you need- assuming you probably just work in sRGB so might be better to get a monitor that is IPS but is not a wide gammut display like the HP zr24
 
If I lost all sense or could justify it, I'd buy an Eizo ColorEdge CG303W:)

You wouldn't go wrong with the Dell or the NEC but I would go with the NEC PA271W over the Dell although it's close- properly calibrated there's not much in it.
 
The Dell monitor U2311H is the colours good when calibrated, the reason i am asking is i was all set yesterday to purchase a HPZR24 and the guy said they have quite a few back with dead pixels and that HP had not been too happy about exchanging them, so it put me off, he recommended the dell, but said sometimes the green is over-saturated on some Dells. I use the screen for portraits and wedding stuff, mainly, could you please advise, you who have them and use them, tia.
 
I had this exact problem last month and in the end went for the Dell U2410 IPS panel monitor. Its fantastic and changed the way I work with my photos.

Shame you aren't down south, you could have bought my u2410 that is for sale at present! ;)
 
Ok thanks, its nice to know when people are happy, its difficult knowing what to do.

Have a look at the NEC PA271w - absolutely superb - but a bit more than your budget - around £800 ex VAT. I have two computers attached to mine - it has a built in KVM via USB - so only one keyboard/mouse/monitor for the two PCs.
