Monitor/Cable/Adaptor question

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.

I mostly use a laptop but want to plug my larger monitor into it. The monitor has the usual connector (blue) but the laptop does not have a space for this. I know you can get an adaptor that will take the monitor cable and fit it into a "hole" in the laptop which looks something like this:

........ ..

(three rows of eight square holes plus a bit slightly to the side that has two square holes top and bottom with a flat straight hole between them.)

If anyone has any idea what I am talking about and knows what the adaptor would be called I would be very grateful

Sounds like an S Video cable. You can get monitors that accept this connectivity natively, but the majority dont.

To my knowlege, I am not sure you can convert from SVideo-VGA.
There is this option though - USB to VGA

Does it look like this:

If so, it's a DVI (probably DVI-I) output. You can find DVI-I cables that have a DVI connector on one end and D-Sub (that's probably the blue connector you mentioned) on the other end. Or you could try using an adapter instead.

Thanks Lee, Slapo and Admirable - I know know the connections is DVI-I and on the back of the Monitor (I did not look till I saw your post) its a DVI-D
