My main lens is the canon 28-135mm f3.5-f56 IS USM which i really like. It seems to be sharp enough when fitted to a tripod and hand held it's fine. I have had some very nice shots from it in the short space of time that i have owned it.

I also have a brand new Canon 50mm f1.8 which i like a lot and i am right on the edge of buying a Canon 85mm f1.8 which produces stunning images judging by the hundreds of shots i have seen taken with this lens.

The thing is i was wondering if it would be more sensible to buy just one good lens rather than keep swapping over risking dust a 'things' getting into the camera. If i sold the Nifty and the 28-135mm i could put the money i was going to spend on the 85mm towards an 'L' lens. I like the look of the 24-105 f4L. SO... would the quality of this lens be up there with the 85mm f1.8 throughout the range? I know i won't get the speed which may be an issue but i will have just one great lens attached rather than swapping all the time.

Any other high quality alternatives for about £600-£700?

ta!

No matter what you do dust will get in eventually, so don't worry about it. Buy the lenses you want/need and deal with the dust with a rocket blower when it appears

The dust really isn't much of an issue, it's seeing if i would get the same IQ from 1 'L' zoom.
