Mount board cutter.

My daughter has a number of mounted pictures which she would cutting down to a specific size to give someone has present.
So would a simple hand held kit be up to the job. She plans to give them not framed so the they need to look good after cutting. They are approx 5/6mm thick (mount and backing board).
Be happy to spend up to high 2 figures as fancy the idea of doing a few custom mounts and I can use the excuse with the wife to get one.

Can you please clarify something.....

Is there a specific reason she wants to reduce the size of already mounted (mount & backing board) pictures? The reason I ask is if already mounted even to a non standard outer dimensions, all the recipient needs to do is go to a local framer and get it framed.

FWIW i have in the past always gotten my mounts and boards custom precut.

However, for odd occasions when I wanted to cut the board/mount material I have a Logan knife. And frankly even with a decent 'straight edge' it is quite hard to control the cut. Oh, and the blades can dull so make sure you have spares to hand.

Having said that, the Logan systems mentioned by @tijuana taxi are AFAIK well respected by the self framing community. NB IIRC the blades I use are identical to the ones used in the Logan systems.

PS it might be more appropriate to buy new mounts & backing boards and remount them to the required size(s).

Of course. I believe it so they can put them into the same size frames they have already on the wall.
It would make more sense about getting new mounts but always fancied doing my own for a while and thought might be a good reason to kick me into action. I was wondering about keeping the cut straight hence one of the reason for asking for help.
