Mountain biking lens choices

Good evening all, off to photograph the brighton big dog bike race next week and thinking of hiring a wide angle lens. The equipment I have is a 1D mkii, 450D, 70-200 F4L, 18-55, 50 1.8 and a 580 exii. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a shot of a friends 70-200 F4L and was very impressed with the speed of it. For that reason i imagine it'd be pretty good for mountainbiking ...

How fast is the AF on it? quite essential for mountainbiking...

( I shoot rallying ) Only had a DSLR for a couple months but have been into motorsport photography for a while
