Moving from 30D to 1D2n. Any tips?

After just over two years faultless service, I've finally upgraded from the ol' 30D to a lovely 1D2n bought from one of our own in the marvellous for sale section. It should arrive tomorrow.

Needless to say it feels like Christmas Eve and I'm very much looking forward to taking some pics with it at the weekend. Do any seasoned 1D users have any tips, tricks or words of wisdom for a 1D/APS-H novice?

I currently have a 40D and a 1D2

Other than the obvious physical differences I suspect the first thing you'll notice is the difference in autofocus capability esp for tracking moving subjects. Get into the custom functions for the AF settings such as expansion points.

The buttons (I'm pretty sure the 1D2n is the same as 1D2) do take a fair bit of getting used to and can be a bit of a fiddle at first.

The 1D2n does have the better screen but the 1D2 can be frustrating compared to the 40D screen. I find I review less and delete less as a result, choosing to just check everything when I get home.

I guess there's lots of things to mention but beware - it's very easy to get hooked on 1D bodies. There's just something about them and the way they feel that makes you reluctant to go back to smaller bodies even more advanced newer models.

You touched on two things I've been thinking about: the controls and the AF.

I've read a couple of reviews and although completely different to the rest of Canon's range, the control layout does make sense so I think I'll get used to it with time.

The more sophisticated AF/tracking configuration settings aren't something I've looked into yet though, so that should be fun!
