Yes
So my new 5D MkII (and 35mm f/1.4) turned up yesterday. Haven't really had time to play with it much, but the thing that's immediately struck me is how much more "grown up" it feels. About the only thing I can categorically notice is a different sound from the shutter, but while I was comfortable with my 40D, it now feels like I've finally got a proper camera and I'm scared by it!!

Has anyone else moved up the ladder, as it were, and found similar? :)

I moved from the 450D to the 7D - totally agree with the "grown up" feeling and especially the shutter sound!! 450D sounded like standing on a mouse :)

Moving from a 5D to a 5D mk2 I have to say the shutter sound on the original was nicer :) Maybe its just what you are used to. No doubt the mk2 sound will grow on me.

are you being serious its pretty much the same body lol

I had a 50D and was use to the feel and sound of it and it felt comfortable in my hands, i then went to jessops and held the 5DMKII and to be honest i felt little if any difference.

I like the shutter to be as quiet and unobtrusive as possible. One of my biggest disappointments with my 20D is the horrendously loud noise the shutter makes. Ideally I'd like it to be silent.

I certainly noticed the difference in shutter sound going from a 450D to a 40D, not sure about the grown up feeling though about changing from 40D to 5Dii as they appear to be practically the same body

Jumping from a 450D to a 1D Mark II yes it soundsed hugely different. Like stepping up from a water pistol to a bolt action sniper rifle.

thats a step and a half!! :)

That's the weird thing .... the body is almost identical. I guess it's because the shutter button feels different and the shutter action sounds different.

Ok ... I guess I'd better go get my coat then!! :)

I've got lens envy!

I rented the 35mm f/1.4L a couple of months ago to shoot the reception at my best friends wedding. Love everything about that glass so I've rented it again for my sisters wedding reception in a couple of weeks. Would love to buy my own copy but can't really justify the cost and my 35mm f/2 does the trick very well most of the time, although I'm keeping an eye out for a sweet second-hand deal on the 1.4!

It was amazing on my 40D so it'll be incredible on your 5DMkII. Enjoy!

George.
