Munich Christmas markets would a 17-40 f4 do?

Seriously though fast primes and the 5D mk3 are a match made in heaven.
But its high ISO capabilities mean that even f4 is doable in low light.. I've shot in a church at f4 ISo 3200 and with a bit of noise reduction the images are fine!!
It really depends on whether your just after a good excuse to buy yourself a new lens.. Lol

I'd be taking some very fast primes to get subject isolation, or at least f/2.8 zoom. UWA is not really needed unless I missed the point.

I was there last December in Munich and didn't take my slr cos ask you do over there is get drunk and eat plenty. The Germans know how to do it!
You will be fine! Go as you are and embrace it. I live my primes but sometimes you need to go wide to get in the full atmosphere. Its amazing!

I was out there some years ago on a business trip, and from what I can remember, there isn't an awful amount of room to move around and the stalls are all crammed together, draped in lights and goodies.
What I will be after is trying to capture the atmosphere in context ( if you know what I mean).
I have the 24-105L, but not had the MKlll that long to see how it is in tight spaces, maybe I should take it into town and see how it does in the streets.
Is it just me, or is there a lack of choice in wide 2.8 lenses for FF?

16-35 II f/2.8L, Tokina 16-28mm (no filters), Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 (MF), 24mm f/1.4 II L and 24-70mm f/2.8 - not great but at least something to choose from
