I just cant seem to find a bit that in focus, no offence, just seems reallly shallow DOF.

No offence taken!. These were wide open @f/2.8, and processed to be 'arty'

Will have been the 2.8 and not your focus technique, personally would try a lil higher if you still want to keep your effect, just get that little more to focus on

No#1 is very arty but would also be a personal taste thing. I quite like it it would maybe look good blown up poster size. no#2 I really like what you are trying to achieve here a stick forest in a drop of water. I do think that this one has more potential if you can get a better focus on the trees though. Look at Alby's water drop moss shot and I hope you will see what I mean. Having said that if you are happy with the results then that is all that really matters
