i eventually got the mac to talk with my server and have uploaded a few bits and bobs my only problem is i dont know what to put on the home page any ideas

a few things that need to considered
im not a professional this is more of a online gallery for me
im not looking at making any money from this site ( only cost of prints if peopl require them

what would you add to the site

im am working on sorting the gallery out

any comments or c&c much appreciated

I'd add something to the homepage about who you are, why you've got this website and what your aims are.

Makes it a bit more interesting for the casual visitor to the site.

Also when you click on the 'Extra' link it takes you to a google address - what is that address as it doesn't really say what it is.

Is it where you live or is it where your business is?

How about a link to email you with comments too, but I think you have to be careful with that so you don't get spammed!

I did my own website ( www.hs748.com ) a few years back from scratch but I haven't updated it for about 10 years now!

thanks was gonna keep the about me to the about me page

forgot i left the extra bit in there im was just going to do links

forthe photos i can make it so people can leave me feedback but just not sure how to yet and as for the site i will work on that shortly
 
Tis ok, looks very template based, and your work doesn't suit the template chosen. Also the 'keep out' on the front page makes me think otherwise about continuing to your gallery.

I'm not sure about the .Mac template you've used. I prefer simple backgrounds, but then that is open to taste so others may like it.

Note that websites created/running through .Mac tend to run very slowly compared to other servers. Some people will have to wait an age for the pages to load if they are on a slow connection. One way to speed things up is to downsize your images before uploading rather than letting iWeb do it for you when you pull the images from iPhoto.

For what it's worth, I think the overall look of the home page is good and I actually quite like the 'keep out'.

It would be better with a little text on the page, just to give an idea what its all about. If it's just a way for you to display your images, say so, 'cos there's now't wrong with that. Excellent.

i will remove it

i thought the keep out was more for a urban look sort of like the template

what sort of info would you put down on the home page thats where im struggling a little

as for the using iweb to create i find it very simplish lol to use and has everything at the ready with a couple of clicks

As I said earlier, I quite like the keep out....

The sort of thing you should say on the Home Page is a little about the purpose of the site and what the viewer can expect if they choose to delve a little deeper. Whet their appetite.
