I wanted a nice light 24ish mm prime for a bit of a walk about lens and it came today. I must say I'm impressed!!!! It's very sharp and gives OK colour contrast which just needs a little boosting in photoshop.

Here is a test image:

Fantastic image Andy, if that's straight out of camera with no PP I'd say that lens will bring you many happy days in future.

Now, Andy - I'm interested in your opinions here. I'm looking at the Sigma 24mm f/1.8, and I'm debating about whether the 24/1.4 is worth the extra dough. Specifically, it's the close focus of the Sigma that interested me - I like to push in tight and close at this focal length.

How close can the 24mm go? In terms of subject separation, how useful is the closest focus for wide angle bokeh-portraiture?

nice! So Sharp!!!!

The canon can get in damn close, about 5" which is a lot closer than any other lens i have. the sigma is good also and i was toying with getting a Siggy 24mm f1.8 as that is a sharp lens also but was put of yet again by bad copies...i know i shouldn't be but i just can't bring myself to buy Sigma.

I'm very happy with the Canon!

Luv the close up shot. On my 550D would this be a 35mmish and someone told me this would be great for group shots. Any thoughts?
