i think a uniform background would be the only crit luke maybe try and keep a singular focus point of the bird as the stump/branch detail can be a little destracting and it may improve the image if you were to throw it out of focus a little.. just my 2pence worth hope this helps. keep working at it and youl be making david bailey jealous in no time

thanks for the advice and yeah i completley agree about the uniform background, i was just pleased to get that close to the blue tit! lol thank you for your comments

It's difficult sometimes getting a decent background far enough away so it can be OOF thus highlighting your subject. Birds are notoriously inconsiderate when they pose sometimes.

Had to stop by and look at this thread just by the title alone Well for what seems your first shots Luke you have done well both are in focus on the head, and they seem exposed nicely.
