Hi All I'm Matthew,
I'll start by letting you know what i've got so far, what i'm trying to achieve and the conclusions i've come up with.
I own a Canon Rebel T3i with 2 stock zoom lenses. The 18 - 55 and 55 - 250. I also added a EF 50mm f1.8 at christmas.
I'm going to be dedicating a bedroom in my house to use as a studio for taking boudoir photos of my girlfriend and some of her friends to start with. So I am trying to choose kit around this. I had read that the 50mm lens I purchased would be great for this kind of photography but I hadn't taken into account the fact that my camera has a crop sensor so the lens is effectivly 88mm and even though the room is quite large I cant achieve full body shots with this lens. Also I want to get a full set of studio lights. My total budget for new gear is between 1200 and 1500.
For lighting I have been looking at the elinchrom 400/400 kit with softboxes and umbrellas but after some quick searching on this forum I have been put off this idea as there seems to be better options.
Lens wise i've looked at a Canon 28mm f1.8 or a Sigma 18 - 35mm f2.8 which seems like a good option. I'm just after a nice sharp lens which I can use indoors to achieve full body shots. I dont even believe a f2.8 will be necessary as I will have a white background well lit, and blur wont reeally be needed.
A couple things im wondering is that if I get a decent lighting setup will I be able to achieve some nice photos with my stock 18 - 55 lens? Also would I be better off purchasing a new camera body with a full sensor and using my 50mm f1.8 with it?
And if I hadn't asked for enough already could someone point me in the direction of a explanation between the differences of full and crop sensors?
