Any recomendations?

Good battery life, would want to put PS on it, only to be used to send pics away from home and then deleted from machine.

I use an Acer Aspire One, very quick at booting up on 1GB Ram, 160GB HDD.
200 quid ! battery lasts a good hour and a half constant useage.

Ive owned at various points the acer aspire one, samsung n10 and eeepc 901.
Apart from the odd diffrence like wether they are fitted with bluetooth or 3G their all pretty similar except batter life and keyboard.

The battery life is surperb on the n10, lasting 4 to 5 hours, the keyboards pretty decent too.

The aspire one has a fantastic keyboard which i was just as happy using as a full size one, unfortuantly the battery only lasts around 90 minutes.

The eeepc has got quite a cramped keyboard and not something you`d want to use for lots of typing, the battery life is pretty good though with it usually lasting around 3 hours. This is the one that i currently use purely because it has internal 3G and does seem a little more rugged than the other two.

Theirs quite a few more these days but if battery life is your main concern i cant see many beating the nc10.

Thanks for these guys, battery life is my main concern, not too bothered about built in ways of getting online because I have a dongle.

I've got a Samsung N140. The 'claimed' battery life of 10-ish hours is somewhat optimistic in reality, as expected. I use mine mainly for watching downloaded tv progs at work. No power saving, dull screen or anything else to prolong life - I get maybe 5 hours give or take.

It's not the quickest with Photoshop/Lightroom etc but then again none of the netbooks are. Just about adequate.

If you are looking to use it with PS then look for one of the 11.6 models. The 1024x600 screens are too small, PS will actually throw up an error box when you open it and the ACR and print boxes are next to useless as the bottom third is cut off.

I bought the Acer 1410 when I needed to use PS on a netbook, it also has the advantage of a Mobile Celeron 1.3 instead of the Atom and a nice 1366x768 resolution. Cost me £309 new and I sold it for £220 recently.

There are other 1366x768 11" models around as well.

I'd second the Acer 1410 - managed to get one from the Acer outlet store a couple of months ago for £160 brand new, then upgraded the RAM to 4GB for another £30... the celeron processor and higher res screen are definitely a bonus, as is wireless n, and I get around 5-6 hours from the battery. Has a 250GB HDD, which I'd like to replace with an SSD when funds permit, and also has the bonus of an HDMI out.

Is able to run PS, Bridge and browse the web etc comfortably, although it's never really going to be a proper desktop replacement... ;)

Some of the new netbooks with dual core Atom processors and NVIDIA graphics chips seem like they would be just as good if not better, although they were silly expensive when I bought the 1410.

[edit] - would also add that since it doesn't have an optical drive, installing programs has to be done over a network or via ISOs, but it's been able to play 720p video streamed from my NAS and quite happily runs older games; handy when travelling etc ;-),

Its a NETbook, its not going to do anything satisfactorily with PS assuming you want to edit.
Why do you need photoshop to send pics ??

oh and NC10 all the way..

I just want something smaller and easier to carry around than my laptop, PS is just to resize and add info needed to send pics, I should have said Elements not PS.

Netbooks are great, maybe it'll run elements ok for a bit of resizing , they're definitely more convenient to carry about than a laptop

I have an 11" PC so no issues with carrying it around but I also sell netbooks and if you look at the latest specs you will see that the battery life has improved as a consequence of better battery technology and of course improvements on the processors which take less power.

There are some good deals out there like this
