Hello

I have two PCs connected to the internet via a wireless router. I want to be able to transfer files between these two PCs like I could when it was all wired up, and internet connection was via a ADSL modem on one of the PCs.

Router IP = 192.168.1.1
Desktop = 192.168.1.2
Laptop = 192.168.1.4
Gateway for both = 192.168.1.1
Subnet for both = 255.255.255.0

Both PCs have internet access, but how do I get them actually communicating with each other?

I've disabled both hardware and software firewalls, this has not helped. I can't even ping between PCs.

Suggestions?

[edit] Oh, and internet access on the laptop is slower than dialup!!!

If you can't ping, there must be some kind of firewall.

Can you not ping either IP from each other?

Make sure you have Windows firewall disabled as well as any third party one.

Well... dunno what it was.

Uninstalled Sygate on both systems and switched XP firewall on. Enabled echo requests and filesharing, all working now. :)

Sygate probably blocking file and print sharing bound to the network cards

Firewalls are absolutely pointless on internal (private) IP addresses. If you have an ADSL router then this will be more than sufficient.
