Cameras such as these must seem very appealing to people who don't want to lug a sackfull of lenses around with them.

However surely they can't come anywhere near to the quality of a DSLR and separate lenses?

Exactly. Tried the Fuji HS10 recently - biggest load of rubbish I've ever tried to use! Thouh, the much older Fuji S100 FS is a dream - gives brilliant results, as close to a DSLR as it'll get in image quality terms.
