New Fuji X-E1, 18-55mm and 50-230mm at £599 an absolute steal or best avoided?

I see that many UK dealers are offering a Fuji X-E1, 18-55mm and 50-230mm lenses for £599 for the next month or so.

Can't believe the price, tempted to get one as a lightweight high-quality setup for landscape and general slow photography.

The Fujis have a great reputation for IQ, hopefully deserved, wondered what the build quality is like, does it stand up to usage? Do users have reliability problems with their cameras and lenses?

I can't see any better alternatives at this sort of price, just wonder if there is any reason not to pull the trigger on this?

Wonder how existing owners feel about Fuji pricing, as this makes a nonsense of their resale values?
 
As with all the Fuji promotions, its a good deal. Note though the 50-230mm is an XC lens, and not quite up to the build quality of the XF lenses, though optically its pretty good. I bought an unused one from someone who didn't want it as part of a previous deal for just over £180.

I think (we) Fuji owners have become used to this aggressive marketing by Fuji, and understand the hit on resale values, that said a lot of 'free' lenses come up for sale secondhand or even never used, and often at bargain prices. And if you want a second body then that's good too!!!

I've had no reliability problems with the X100, X-E1 or X-E2 all of which are in regular use. If it meets your requirements then go for it, you'll soon be hooked and buying more lenses!!!

Mmmm...I'll ring round see what's the best deal I can get.

Wondered if anyone can recommend a dealer who offers more than the standard 1 year warranty, believe that J Lewis offers 2 years as standard, but this Fuji combo is not listed as a stock item.

Anywhere else to try?

Also wondered whether the free lens comes with the camera, or do you have to wait for Fuji to send it to you after registration. If so, does it take for ever as some cashback offers have that I've taken advantage of in the past?

Purchased a similar deal a few months ago and sold the longer lens. It's a great camera and at the price with 18-55 lens there's can't be much to touch it on IQ. For me, I'm still making up my mind as the slow AF is a bit of a pain for me as I'm generally taking pics of my kids. Saying that I find it a joy to use so not sure what to do!

See what you mean about the lens, some cracking pics - some familiar scenes as know Salford and Hartford well!

Thanks for the pointer to where to buy, looks like Mathers, within 20 miles of me, is the place to go.

Want to use as a lightweight landscape camera in good and bright light so keeping up with grandkids not so important.

What I need is accurate focus rather than 5D iii type tracking!

XE1 will do or perhaps the Sigma DPM or a lot of other CSCs.
 
i had an xe-1 for a few months and it was a corker. All the x series punch far above their weight

Yep, sure that many would fit the bill, BUT how many at £599 to include one superb standard zoom and one very good tele zoom? :-)

Because Im mental and change my cameras very often even though theres nothing wrong with them. :D

Only issue that bugged me a little with the XE-1 was the AF and even that was okay for everyday shooting (not kids or moving targets), otherwise its bloody brilliant for the money.
 
nope not mental, i think :) A mixture of sensor snobbery, all my cameras are either full frame to large format and im just used to a big image now and the other reason at the time i wanted a camera that would fit in my jacket pocket to replace my x10. This with a lens attached wouldn't do that, not with the jacket i had anyway. But the quality of the images blew me away.

For this offer and the price its amazing.
 
I've just been talking to Fotosense, another local dealer who will do a three year parts and labour warranty on this camera.

Think I can't do better than that, so they'll probably get my custom.

I once bought a body from them when the offered two year warranties and was surprised and pleased that they honoured a viewfinder warranty repair issue to the person I had sold the camera to. Another good local dealer. :-)
 
I am in the same boat. I am looking at a Fuji X interchangeable lens camera to complement my X100. When I go out to shoot with both my cameras (5D2), I can't get away from the lovely colours from those Fujifilm sensors. So I'm waiting for a X camera with XF tele lens deal.......

Because let's be honest, buying a X camera without using one of the cracking deals seems like a crime.

Do think we are brainwashed into constant upgrading, must admit that I'm a compulsive special offer buyer of everything, not just cameras, if it's got a yellow sticker on it I'm interested.

Must be some sort of compulsive disorder!!:crying::crying::crying:

Try Fotosense as with their three year warranty, it's a no brainer......
 
Got mine from the Fuji refurb site, 450 quid for X-E1 and 18-55 incl 12 months warranty. Didn't want the longer lens so well pleased with that deal, all looked like new to me

Good price, just prefer the 3 year warranty from Fotosense - might be in line for commission if I plug them any more!
 
Got mine from mathers few months ago and the IQ is great af is a little slow and the free lens isn't that bad at all. I was missing micro 4/3 and I've ordered some items after selling all my dslr gear so not sure if I will run with 2 systems or wether the fuji will go.
