New Laptop & Reboot disc

Purchased a new Toshiba laptop for my daughter for Christmas, very little in the box, and noticed that there was no reboot disc as i have had before, messaged the question to PC World, on a return message some 2 weeks later, which they said its because of the special offer on the Laptop, no discs are included, but the reboot is on the laptop.
Now i am confused, its a waste of time messaging PC World, so thought i might ask here.

Some one has suggested that you make a copy from the Laptop onto a disc. is this true?.

The Laptop is all wrapped up. So i cannot read the manual.

Any help gratfully recieved.

Most laptops have application from the manufacturer included to create such disks.
alternatively create a windows back up.
 
With the tosh, you have a small restore drive on the harddisc, if any thing goes wrong with the build of windows and you need to do a rebuild all you need to do is during the boot process is hold hown the F8 key and it will go into the boot menu and pick the repair function and within this menu you can pick to rebuild it.

My toshiba although there is a restore drive on the hd it advises that you make a copy by burning it on to a couple of cd's ...or was it dvd's? can't quite remember, anyway there is probably a instruction somewhere showing you how to do this.
 
As Frank says it has a restore partition on the HDD and it goes onto 2 DVDs its a very simple process and it explains everything clearly as you go along
We had to restore babytigers a few weeks ago fron the disks and it was just so easy to do
 
My mum bought my little sis a Toshiba this year also. As it turned out the only way to get it was in store here in Boston since the home delivery never turned up and it transpired it was out of stock in the warehouse. Luckily the store here where I live had 1 left ... anyway, my mum asked me to open it and check it all worked OK. When I opened it I also found there to be no disc and I was also concerned. However it soon became clear when I turned it on, that it was all in the hard drive somewhere.

I tell you what though, if you want to save some time, get it booted up, as this one we got took over an hour to install the 53 windows updates that were waiting once I got it online :eek: Not to mention the fact that during the initial switch on and installation process it went into hibernation, so it stopped installing. After waiting an hour for it to finish its final step, I'd had enough and called Toshiba, who simple said to press Esc, and it worked a treat :lol: At least now my sis can get straight online on Christmas day to play if she wants :)
 
Just one other point, it will most likely let you only do one set of disks. ;)
 
Well thanks all for the feed back, i think i can get it sorted, once she opens her pressy, although i am tempted to open it up and start the system to make sure all is firing up properly and ready for her use.

Really gratefull for all the replies.

That's not a bad idea - get it set up, and run Windows update so it's all ready to use on Xmas day:thumbs:

There is a Toshiba utility (icon on the desktop probably) that will make burning a backup onto DVD a breeze...

I would definately do this, just in case there are any problems. :thumbs:
 
Thanks, Will be checking it all out loading some software as well over the weekend, just in case.
 
if its from pc world you will have a Tec Guys shortcut usually on the desktop click that and make sure you have at least 2 dvds to hand as it will write the restore directly onto dvd do it before you install any software also it will only let you do it once I just bough a new pc from pc world its an advent my sister inlaw bought an avent laptop from there and my mate bought a toshiba from there they all had the same backup facility from the techguys like I said it will only let you do it once
On both laptops it only took 1 dvd on my Pc it took 2

With my Toshiba as soon as I turned it on it asked me if I wanted to create a recovery disk which I did, two actually. Also for some reason although the manual said otherwise it liked DVD - disks and would not create with +'s. On my screen by default was a "Toshiba Recovery" icon which took you straight to the create disk option.
