I THINK I have now mastered the Sigma 120 - 400 and have the tamron 70 - 300 and the canon kit lens, and nifty fifty, which other lens do you think would be beneicial to me if I was to add to this collection bearing in mind that wildlife is my main interest.

Not really into macro but I suppose I could give it a try I find some of the shots quite eerie!!

To make a significant imporvement on what you've got, you will probably be looking at big primes - and several grand.

What do you feel you are missing from your current line up?

Just thought (only a thought) that I can better my Sigma:shrug: but then why:thinking: I ask myself, ideally would like to replace it with a Canon

Got some money burning a hole in your pocket? :-)

I suffer from the same affliction, but keep telling myself I do not need a D3s and 85mm F1.4 Nikkor, so far I have resisted, but have moments of weakness! A quick look at my mortgage statement makes me realise that I really am ok with the kit I have, until the D4/5 comes out.........

Maybe it is worth looking at a fast Canon IS lens to upgrade to if you have money to burn or a decent Tripod if you don't have one already?

Well if you have the money there is the 100-400 Canon for £ 1268 or the 400 f5.6 for £1120 both from Warehouse Express.

No not really spare money and we are lucky enough not to have a mortgage:lol: I have a tripod but honestly don't like using it.

I can find other ways of spending "spare money" if I happen to have any just wanting to better my kit but will wait till I upgrade camera.

Judging by your Red Kite pics you might see an improvement getting a Canon 300mm F2.8, but only you could decide if it is worth spending that much for what you may gain. How much do you enlarge your pics ?

Kites (recent ones) were NOT cropped or enlarged in any way as they came out of camera just sharpened a tad.

It's no surprise that serious birders tend to be kitted out with some awesome gear, but I think even they would say that field craft (ie location, patience) and technique are more important.

Why not hire something like a 500L 4 from StewartR (Lenses for Hire), maybe a 1.4x extender too, see what you're missing.

My experience of these things is limited but I can tell you that those big primes are extremely heavy and very hard to use properly. How on earth IanC_UK uses a 600L 4 with an extender, hand held at some silly shutter speeds, and gets such incredible results - well, it's beyond me I'm afraid. Serious respect. Wildlife is probably the most challenging subject from every aspect.
