Got a tamron 90mm 2.8, took it for a run with my dog, Ben.
will be using this lens mainly for sport but hope it will spur me on to do more with it.

1 missed the eyes but shows the dof from the nose back

2 got him to fetch and he looked happy

3 is this my best side?

Nice set there, his face with the ball looks great - as you say, very happy!
 
I think the focus would be better on the eyes in the first but I like the second two - maybe a bit too much space at the top on the last. Seems like a strange choice of lens for sport though...
 
Thanks, I was hoping his ears would prick up.... :D

The lens was needed for it 2.8 ability, just come back from a game and need to look through to see how it performed. From the few chances I got whilst there to preview, it did a good job. I'll let you know but unfortunately I cant post them on here :crying:

composition on all 3 could be improved. the first, as you say, is OOF, but smack central in the frame, maybe a slightly different framing would have worked better? The second i'd have preferred the whole animal in frame, personally I feel it would be a better shot.
final shot is the same, a little more space to the left and bottom and a little less at the top, the right hand side is good, staring off into the open frame
