Hi everyone,

Currently I have a 16-85mm f3.5-5.6 and a 50mm f1.8 and I am looking t get a new lens to go with my D300s for outdoor portraits and bette bokeh I need to decide between either getting the nikon 85mm f1.8, tamron 90mm macro or getting a 70-200mm, not Nikon.

I'm not sure if the sigma 70-200 or the tamron 70-200 would be a good option.

So if you were in my place which one would you get.

Thanks for the help.

85mm 1.8 all the way. Amazing lens and great value for money. Great subject isolation and smooth bokeh.

I'd say either the 85mm f/1.8, or a 70-200 (it's what I've got :D)

The sigma 70-200 is said to focus faster than the Tamron, but the tamron has superior optics. For portraits, the Tamron would be best, as you're not going to need lighting fast AF.

However, I'd say the 85 f/1.8. The background blur on my canon one is awesome, and if you're doing portraits you don't really need a zoom, you can use the cheapest zoom of them all, you feet!

Unless of course you're doing portraits in really tricky situations where you can't move closer, across pits of lava, between gaping chasams etc :D

If you haven't got a macro lens i'd get the sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro, it's a very good 1:1 macro which also doubles up as a f/2.8 portrait lens

Does your 16-85 'jump around' every now and then?

When looking through the eyepiece I mean. People on here say it's just the VR, but thought I'd check with someone who's got the lens

I don,t think I understand what you mean by Jump around, if you explain it better I will have a look for you.

well, when if I'm looking through the viewfinder when I turn the camera on, there are 3 or 4 'clicks' with the image in the viewfinder jumping up and down in time with the clicks. Then works fine.

And also, when zooming and or out, and autofocusing, the image can jump around a bit, with the accompanying 'clicks' before settling back on the original location.

See here for thread I started on the subject.

I just tried mine, turned it off and on again a few times and zomed in and our a few times but none of that happend. you can hear the vr kick in especially when you zoom to 85mm but that is normal.
I don't know what to advise you, if its really bothering you, I would say contact the seller and try to sort something out maybe have a professional have a look at it.
