I am after a 300mm lens for a Nikon at a reasonable price - any suggestions ?

I dont know if this is classed as reasonable, but I bought this for an ex, and it seemed pretty good, mind you, it was £50 cheaper only 2 months ago .

You might need to supply a little more info - IE what kind of aperture are you after, and can it be within a zoom range or do you want a prime?
Also - "reasonable price" is very subjective... A ball park figure might help

300mm f/2.8 for £500? You're 'avin' a larf?
You will get a Nikon 300mm f/4, or a Sigma 100-300mm f/4 second hand for that price, 2nd hand prices (for the Sigma & Nikon 300mm f/2.8's anyway) are still well over £1k...

This is the closest you will get for about £500
AF speed probably isn't lightning fast but still...
Next would be the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 - been seeing used prices for that of approx £850
